My approach to therapy is influenced by 30 years experience as a psychotherapist and the many perspectives and models of mental health, behavior and the process of change to which I have been exposed during that time including cognitive therapy and mindfulness. I believe that our problems are a result of the interaction between our innate constitution, life experiences, early and present relationships, and our resulting habitual patterns of behavior and thinking. The good news is that as we learned these patterns, we can learn healthier ones, improving self-esteem, relationships, resilience in the face of obstacles, and the ability to achieve life goals. My goal is to assist you in this process - a kind of colleague in the process of change.
I work with people in ongoing therapy to help with unhealthy and disruptive life patterns and in short-term, goal-focused therapy regarding a specific issue. No matter how we work together, I am dedicated to providing a safe, confidential and supportive environment. I try to balance supportive listening with practical exercises and support to help you identify your own patterns and find healthier alternatives. I tailor each session to best meet your needs and to help you meet your goals.
My work is a blend of cognitive therapy and mindfulness, helping you to focus on the way in which you interpret and react to your experience so that you can change these habitual ways of thinking and behaving. I also provide EMDR a powerful technique for changing thinking patterns that don't work in your life.
